The
Ohio Lesbian Gay Police Association...

The O.L.G.P.A. is a loosely organized group of gay and lesbian law enforcement professionals who are dedicated to supporting each other and to fostering a safe and secure work environment for ourselves and those like us who would otherwise be deterred from entering this traditionally homophobic field.
Members are available to teach diversity classes in your organization's continuing education program or academy or to speak at your next law enforcement conference.
Ohio is consistently ranked as one of the worst states in the U.S. in comparisons of gay rights issues. This is reflected profoundly in the blatant employment discrimination faced by lesbian and and gay police officers. In cities like Cleveland where protections are written into the law there is some recourse; elsewhere, there may be none. The key to survival then is to know what your rights are in your municipality and to have a plan before coming out.
Many of our membership are out. Many are not. Those who are respect the privacy rights of those who are not. We encourage openness and we believe that the more of us who come out, the closer we will come to achieving our common goals. This said, we also understand that each of us face different circumstances and no one of us can judge what is best for another, nor will we resort as a group to bully tactics.
